Lyricist and poet Anisul Haque Chowdhury passed away on September 7 in Florida, USA due to age-related ailments, says a press release. He was 90. Over the last three months, Chowdhury was in coma.

Chowdhury earned fame through several of his popular songs such as “Rupali nodirey rup deikha tor hoiyachhi pagol,” “Moinamoti shari debo goina debo” and more. Apart from lyrics, he also published several books. One of his notable writings is “Banglar Mool Arabi,” which was translated from Time Magazine and has been used as a reference book at Dhaka University.

Chowdhury was also credited with inspiring Abu Ishaq for writing his acclaimed novel “Surjo Dighal Bari.” Ishaq dedicated his novel to Chowdhury.

Singer Abbasuddin and poet Golam Mustafa were among his closest friends. His departure has created a void in Bangladeshi literature.
