Laila Hasan recently received the Ekushey Padak-2010 for her contribution to dance. To celebrate the award, Jatiya Nabanna Utshab Udjapan Parshad organised a felicitation programme for Hasan on April 4 at Music and Dance Centre, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The programme featured discussion and cultural function.

The programme started with a musical soiree. The artiste was greeted with bouquets prior to the performances. Shariar Salam, convener of Jatiya Nabanna Utsab Udjapan Parshad conferred an uttorio (celebratory scarf) on Laila Hasan. Eminent cultural personalities including Mustafa Monwar, Atiqul Haque Chowdhury and human rights activist Sultana Kamal spoke on the occasion.

Mustafa Monwar said, “I have quite a few remarkable memories involving Laila. During the Liberation War we worked together on several fronts. From the very beginning, we have been closely connected through our shared aims, beliefs and thoughts.”

Atiqul Haque Chowdhury said, “Laila acted in the first play produced by me — “Hey Bijoyi Bir.” She has always been vocal against forces that discourage traditional cultural practices.”

Shariar Salam, convener of Jatiya Nabanna Utsab Udjapan Parshad said, “Laila Hasan has been the chairman of our organisation for 12 years. She is not only a dancer and actress, but also an efficient organiser. She is our leader. We are proud that she has been honoured with an Ekushey Padak. She has always taken a bold stand for our culture.”

The programme was followed by a cultural programme.
