Massive allegations of irregularities have been surfaced against some teachers at Thoirgaon Government Primary School under Kola union in Sirajdikhan upazila here as regular and coaching classes are being taken at the same time; during tiffin hours, the teachers lock classrooms compelling students to go back leaving their books inside classrooms.

While investigating the matter, it was known that Headmaster Shahana Begum goes back from school after signing the rooster daily. Some days she remains only for an hour at the school. Since her residence is near the school, she spends most of her office times there. At that time, teachers take classes as per their wishes. There are three classes and two shifts at the school: Preparatory, Class I and Class II are taken from 10 am till 12 pm while Class III, Class IV and Class V are taken from 12 pm till 4 pm.

It has been alleged that part-time teacher Ranu Akter compels students to attend coaching classes during school hours. She takes Tk 250 to 500 from each student class-wise.

A student of Class III at the school, said, “Ranu Madam takes coaching classes of every subject, and for this, she takes Tk 300 per month from each of us. During tiffin hours, we go out from classes, but on return we find our classrooms locked. As a result, we have to go back leaving our books inside classrooms.”

President of the school management committee Md Hannan said as the Headmaster Shahana Begum is irregular at school, she was show-caused by the education officer some days back.

While asked Shahana Begum said, “All allegations against me are false. No teacher follows my order. The president and I have cautioned Ranu Akter about her coaching classes, but she did not abide by our orders.”

Some guardians said the headmaster comes to the school at 12pm and leaves after an hour. No teacher takes classes accordingly.

Accused Ranu Akter said, as her class is at 12:30pm, so she takes coaching classes from 10am till 12pm. Upazila Primary Education Officer Belayet Hossen said, “I have no information about such a school.” He, however, denied making comments regarding the issue.
