Iajuddin visits native home before saying goodbye to Bangabhaban

On the penultimate day in his extended presidency, Dr Iajuddin Ahmed Tuesday visited his native home at Noyagaon under Sadar Upazila of the district exchanging pleasantries with his compatriots for the last time as the President.

Accompanied by his spouse Dr Anwara Begum, he offered Fateha at his family graveyard during the visit, two days before saying goodbye to Bangabhaban, the presidential house, after over seven years.

The BNP-led opposition lawmakers yesterday walked out of the inaugural session of parliament and boycotted President Iajuddin Ahmed’s address.

They said they were not interested to hear a president who had “violated the constitution”.

BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) also blasted the treasury for not “making good on its pledge to elect deputy speaker from the opposition”.

President urges teachers to ensure quality education

President Dr Iajuddin Ahmed Saturday said the country’s independence could be meaningful, if quality education is ensured for the students, reports BSS.

The President said this when a delegation of the teachers of Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed Residential Model School and College in Munshiganj called on him at Bangabhaban here.

The members of the delegation, led by Principal Lieutenant Colonel Khandaker Farhad Hossain, briefed the President about different academic and extra curricular activities of the institution.
